How to Get PhD Funding From Various Universities

If the student has necessary resources, he can fund him easily but there are many universities in the world that fund the students for PhD.  Many PhD scholarships for Indian students help them to get themselves enrolled in the PhD programs.

Many instructive scholarships, generous administrations and trusts are available to offer financial assistance for the study abroad for Indian students.

In this article we are giving an overview of PhD funding options from various universities around the world.

USA: In the USA, the PhD students are given the waiver and stipend on annual basis as a financial aid to discourage them from involving in any employment. Usually the funding depends on the course of study selected. In the U.S, some universities allow full funding for the PhD programs. For example the Columbia University offer full funding to all the PhD students. Boston colleges for psychology also offer full time funded doctoral programs for 4 to 5 years. Duke University offer multiyear funding for PhD in the Military History program. The funding includes a stipend, a tuition waivers etc. University of Michigan’s College offer full funding support for the PhD in Engineering.

UK: The fees for PhD programs in the universities of the UK are relatively high but many universities provide annual or full funding to the PhD students. They also provide scholarships for Indian Students 2015 for PhD. University of Kent offers the funding throughout the year. The University of Edinburgh offers the financial assistances in the form of Research and Teaching Scholarships for full 3 years of PhD program. The university also offers Economic and Social Research Council studentship for covering fees and maintenance of the PhD students. The University of Exeter offers three years studentship and covers full tuition fees and living allowance for the PhD students. The scholarships/ studentship are merit based and the students are required to apply early in their academic year for this. Some universities have only a limited number of scholarships available for the Indian students.

Canada: In Canada the students who are studying PhD are funded for four years. Every year thousands of students enroll in the PhD programs in the universities of Canada. Among other university McGill University is the top university to offer PhD funding to the international students. 6000 international students study there. Many of the scholarships offer funding for covering the tuition fees of the university along with the living expenses. These scholarships are managed by the Canadian Association of Universities and Colleges. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is also offered to the Indian students for their PhD programs.

France: Higher education and research ministry in France offers some funding for research. There is a doctoral contract for the students of PhD which is for 3 years and is also renewable for one year.

The Indian students can get many opportunities to study abroad after getting the funding for their PhD studies. Now an increasing numbers of universities around the world are offering scholarships and financial aids to the Indian students.
